MathSheetGo · Sheet #641Please review before classroom use

Place value helps students understand that a digit changes value according to its position. These worksheets use whole numbers from two through six digits, so learners can move from tens and ones to hundred-thousands without changing the core idea.

Choose practice for identifying a digit's value, expanded form, standard form, number words, comparing, ordering or rounding. Every sheet is generated from a repeatable sheet number and includes an optional answer key, printable versions and a shareable link.

Suggested place value progression

  • Read two- and three-digit numbers and identify the value of one digit.
  • Connect standard form to expanded form and number words.
  • Compare numbers one place at a time, beginning with the greatest place.
  • Order sets of four numbers from least to greatest.
  • Round to tens, hundreds and then thousands using the digit to the right.

Teaching tip: name the place and the value

Ask students to say both the place and its value: in 47,352, the 7 is in the thousands place and has a value of 7,000. When comparing numbers, line up the digits and start at the left. When rounding, circle the target place and underline the digit immediately to its right before deciding whether to keep or increase the target digit.
