Ordering Numbers Least to Greatest

Name

Order each set of numbers from least to greatest.

MathSheetGo · Sheet #827Please review before classroom use

Ordering numbers extends pairwise comparison to a complete sequence. Each question gives four whole numbers with the selected number length and asks students to arrange them from least to greatest. The answer key separates the ordered values with less-than symbols so the direction remains visible.

The default sheet uses five-digit numbers and 15 groups. Choose two through six digits, adjust the question count or create several versions at the same level. A fixed sheet number keeps every group reproducible, making it easy to share the worksheet or print the matching key later.

Order one number at a time

  • Compare the greatest place across all four numbers.
  • Identify and record the smallest value first.
  • Cross out that value and repeat with the remaining numbers.
  • Place less-than symbols between the completed sequence.
  • Read the row from left to right and confirm that every value increases.

Handle numbers with matching leading digits

When several values begin the same way, align them vertically and move right until a column differs. For 52,180 and 52,108, the ten-thousands through hundreds match, but 0 tens is less than 8 tens, so 52,108 comes first. This method scales to any supported number length.
