Decimal work becomes much clearer when students treat the decimal point as a place-value marker rather than decoration. These worksheets keep every operand at the selected precision, making tenths and hundredths easy to line up before calculating or comparing.

Choose addition, subtraction, comparison or rounding. You can use one or two digits before the decimal point and practise tenths or hundredths. Rounding supports the nearest whole number and the nearest tenth, while subtraction problems always have answers of zero or more.

Suggested progression

  • Read and compare tenths using place-value language.
  • Add and subtract tenths by lining up decimal points.
  • Repeat the same skills with hundredths and two-digit whole-number parts.
  • Round tenths to whole numbers, then round hundredths to tenths.

Teaching tip: line up place values

Have students say each number in words before calculating, then place tenths under tenths and hundredths under hundredths. For comparison, examine the whole-number part first and move right one place at a time. For rounding, identify the target digit and use the digit immediately to its right to decide whether the target stays the same or increases by one.

How to print this worksheet

  5. Keep the answer key page for yourself. The sheet number in the footer lets you make the exact same sheet again later.

Frequently asked questions

Do the worksheets use tenths and hundredths?
Yes. Choose one decimal place for tenths or two decimal places for hundredths. Rounding to tenths automatically uses numbers written to the hundredths place.
Can decimal subtraction produce negative answers?
No. The larger decimal is placed first, so every subtraction answer is zero or greater.
How are halfway values rounded?
A 5 in the deciding place rounds up, following the common round-half-up method taught in elementary math.
