Adding Decimals to Hundredths

Name

Add the decimals. Line up the decimal points and write each sum.

MathSheetGo · Sheet #761Please review before classroom use

Adding decimals uses the same place-value ideas as whole-number addition, but the decimal points must be aligned so ones, tenths and hundredths remain in their correct columns. These worksheets generate pairs of decimals with consistent precision and calculate every sum from exact scaled integers.

The default sheet uses two digits before the point and two decimal places. Teachers can switch to tenths, use smaller whole-number parts, choose 10 to 30 questions or create up to four equal-difficulty versions. Answers retain the selected precision, including a final zero when it helps show the hundredths place.

A reliable decimal addition routine

  • Write the numbers so their decimal points are directly aligned.
  • Keep hundredths under hundredths, tenths under tenths and ones under ones.
  • Add from right to left and regroup into the next place when needed.
  • Bring the decimal point straight down into the sum.
  • Estimate with whole numbers to check whether the exact answer is reasonable.

Why place-value alignment matters

A decimal point marks the boundary between whole-number and fractional places. Lining up the right edges can accidentally place tenths beneath hundredths, while aligning decimal points guarantees that like units are combined. Encourage students to name each column before calculating and to read the finished sum aloud.

How to print this worksheet

  1. Check the settings above. They are already set for adding decimals.
  2. Pick 10, 15, 20 or 30 problems, a title, and the name or date lines you want.
  3. Choose US Letter or A4 to match the paper in your printer.
  4. Press Download PDF for a file you can save and reuse, or Print to send it straight to your printer.
  5. Keep the answer key page for yourself. The sheet number in the footer lets you make the exact same sheet again later.

Frequently asked questions

Can I generate addition with tenths only?
Yes. Select Tenths under Decimal places to create numbers with exactly one decimal place.
Can a sum be greater than 100?
With two digits before the decimal point, adding two large operands can produce a three-digit whole-number part.
Are the calculations affected by floating-point rounding?
No. The engine represents every operand as a scaled integer and formats the exact result afterward.

Worksheets are generated automatically and checked by automated tests, but please review each sheet before using it in class.
