MathSheetGo · Sheet #751Please review before classroom use

Perimeter measures the total distance around the outside of a shape. Each question on this worksheet includes a rectangle diagram with its length and width clearly labeled. Students can add all four sides or use the equivalent formula 2 × (length + width), then record the result in centimeters, meters, inches or feet.

The starting preset provides 15 rectangle questions in centimeters. Change the unit, number of problems or shape selection without leaving the page, and generate fresh versions with one button. Optional answer keys and reproducible sheet numbers make the worksheets practical for lessons, homework, intervention and retakes.

Ways to calculate and check perimeter

  • Trace the boundary and add length + width + length + width.
  • Group equal opposite sides and calculate 2 × length + 2 × width.
  • Add length and width first, then double the sum.
  • Label the answer with an ordinary length unit rather than a square unit.
  • Compare the result with the longest side; the full boundary must be longer.

Prevent confusion with area

Have students run a finger around the outline before writing an equation. Perimeter follows the border, while area covers the inside. Encourage learners to state which measurement is requested and choose the matching operation before using the numbers shown on the diagram.

How to print this worksheet

  1. Check the settings above. They are already set for perimeter of rectangles.
  2. Pick 10, 15, 20 or 30 problems, a title, and the name or date lines you want.
  3. Choose US Letter or A4 to match the paper in your printer.
  4. Press Download PDF for a file you can save and reuse, or Print to send it straight to your printer.
  5. Keep the answer key page for yourself. The sheet number in the footer lets you make the exact same sheet again later.

Frequently asked questions

Which perimeter units can I use?
Choose centimeters, meters, inches or feet. Every diagram and answer uses the selected unit.
Are the rectangles drawn to scale?
The diagrams show the correct shape and labels for calculation, but students should use the printed measurements rather than measuring the image.
Can I generate square perimeter questions?
Yes. Select Squares or Mixed shapes while keeping Find perimeter as the practice type.

Worksheets are generated automatically and checked by automated tests, but please review each sheet before using it in class.
