MathSheetGo · Sheet #743Please review before classroom use

Area describes how much two-dimensional space lies inside a shape. These worksheets present labeled rectangles with whole-number side lengths from 2 through 20 and ask students to calculate length multiplied by width. Every answer uses square units so the measurement is distinct from an ordinary side length or perimeter.

The default sheet uses centimeters, but meters, inches and feet are also available. Teachers can change the problem count, switch to squares or mixed shapes, produce up to four versions and keep or remove the answer-key page. The same sheet number always rebuilds the same dimensions and answers.

Connect arrays to the area formula

  • Interpret one side as the number of rows and the other as the number in each row.
  • Multiply length by width to count all equal square units without drawing every square.
  • Write cm², m², in² or ft² because area measures squares, not a line.
  • Use the commutative property to check that length × width equals width × length.
  • Estimate with nearby side lengths to decide whether the product is reasonable.

Reading each rectangle diagram

Ask students to locate the horizontal and vertical measurements before multiplying. They can lightly shade the interior to reinforce that area fills the rectangle. If a learner adds the side lengths, contrast the shaded interior with a traced boundary and use the related perimeter worksheet for targeted comparison.

How to print this worksheet

  1. Check the settings above. They are already set for area of rectangles.
  2. Pick 10, 15, 20 or 30 problems, a title, and the name or date lines you want.
  3. Choose US Letter or A4 to match the paper in your printer.
  4. Press Download PDF for a file you can save and reuse, or Print to send it straight to your printer.
  5. Keep the answer key page for yourself. The sheet number in the footer lets you make the exact same sheet again later.

Frequently asked questions

What side lengths are generated?
Rectangles use whole-number length and width values from 2 through 20.
Do the answers show square units?
Yes. Answers use cm², m², in² or ft² according to the selected unit.
Can I include squares as well as rectangles?
Yes. Change the shape setting to Squares or Mixed shapes while keeping the Area practice type.

Worksheets are generated automatically and checked by automated tests, but please review each sheet before using it in class.
