US customary conversions require students to know several different relationships rather than one base-ten pattern. These worksheets practise inches, feet and yards; ounces and pounds; and cups, pints, quarts and gallons. Each generated question uses one familiar conversion step and an exact whole-number answer.

The default worksheet mixes length, weight and capacity while alternating between larger-to-smaller and smaller-to-larger units. Change either setting to create focused practice, select 10 to 30 questions, or generate multiple versions for groups and retakes. A reproducible sheet number keeps the questions and answer key consistent.

Conversion facts students will use

  • 12 inches equal 1 foot, and 3 feet equal 1 yard.
  • 16 ounces equal 1 pound.
  • 2 cups equal 1 pint.
  • 2 pints equal 1 quart, and 4 quarts equal 1 gallon.
  • Multiply when converting to smaller units and divide when converting to larger units.

A simple reasoning check

Before calculating, have learners circle the smaller unit and decide whether the answer number should grow or shrink. Converting 5 feet to inches must produce a number greater than 5, while converting 48 inches to feet must produce a smaller number. This estimate catches many reversed-operation errors before students consult the answer key.

How to print this worksheet

  1. Check the settings above. They are already set for customary measurement conversions.
  2. Pick 10, 15, 20 or 30 problems, a title, and the name or date lines you want.
  3. Choose US Letter or A4 to match the paper in your printer.
  4. Press Download PDF for a file you can save and reuse, or Print to send it straight to your printer.
  5. Keep the answer key page for yourself. The sheet number in the footer lets you make the exact same sheet again later.
